As I begin my last semester at Moorpark before I transfer, I look back and realize that being in a wheelchair and having Cerebral Palsy has made my college experience so much more rewarding. I came across a lot of people who had choice words for me when I mentioned that I wanted to eventually transfer to Stanford University. They didn’t believe in me. Nevertheless, I ignored them and instead, I reached out to people in my same situation.
“College is completely doable. Stressful, but doable,” says Allison Cardwell, 22, a senior at University of Arizona, who also has Cerebral Palsy. “It’ll definitely teach you independence, for sure.”
She was right. College has given me a stronger sense of self and a lot more independence as well as freedom. I cannot wait to see what the future holds after I leave Moorpark College.
