Since I was a wee one, I’ve loved good music. Granted, even at 19, I still have the musical taste of a pre-teen. My iTunes library is chockfull of Ke$ha, Lady Gaga, Hilary Duff (I’m nostalgic, okay?), and yes, occasionally, some Cheetah Girls (again with the nostalgia), but I have been trying hard as of late, to expand my musical genre. Of course, I do listen to a bit of Johnny Cash, Ella Fitzgerald, Adele, Young The Giant, and Matt & Kim. As of right now, I am completely obsessed with (and can’t get enough of) Lana Del Rey, Lorde, and Marina And The Diamonds. Since I’m always subjecting myself to the same repetitive jargon that is pop music, it makes finding another pop/ alternative artist that has thought provoking lyrics all the more rewarding. (Clarification: When I say thought provoking, I mean the lyrics that either make you think or those that you don’t immediately understand, so you have to keep listening to the song a few times to decipher your own meaning. I am aware that Ke$ha and Hilary Duff are not thought provoking!)
[My current favorite track is Marina And The Diamonds: “Oh No!”]
This is a picture from Tumblr and I’m not actually an owner of anything Chanel-related (sadly), but I do own Lana Del Rey’s “Born To Die: Paradise Edition” and of course, Lorde’s fabulous new album, “Pure Heroine” and I am in love with both. I mean, the fact that Lorde is that talented at, like, 17 just makes me feel really inadequate. Lana and Lorde are also my favorites to listen to while writing.
What are some of your favorite songs/albums/artists?
